A New Tarmac Driveway
Tired of a driveway that gets muddy when it rains? Can’t stand the puddles of water and the potholes forming in your path and just want to find a permanent solution?
Tarmacing your driveway is the answer.
With tarmac, you can enjoy a durable surface for years of low maintenance. Tarmac is not just an ideal way of enhancing the look and appeal of your home; it’s also a way to increase your property value too.
What are the benefits of tarmacing?
- Increase the value of your property
- Durability, it will last for years
- Visually appealing
- Cost effectiveness
- Provides you with additional usable space
- Low maintenance
Tarmac surfacing has been purposely produced using two materials, which are crushed stones mixed with tar. Tarmac is the perfect material to use for cost-effective driveways or forecourts. On the other hand, we have asphalt. Asphalt is a mix of bitumen and crushed rocks. This option is better for greater sized areas and those places which tend to have a lot of traffic using them – it is an amazingly hard wearing substance.
When installed, tarmac is versatile, durable and will last for years. It is highly suitable for driveways. We can edge the tarmacked areas with bricks to make it stand out, plus we offer the option to add decorative aggregates to give you a highly attractive finish, with different colours available.
As well as the usual tarmac surfacing, we can offer customers a range of coloured tarmac surfacing which are perfect for drives, paths etc that might benefit from a boost of appeal and distinction. The coloured tarmac surfacing we supply is available in shades of black, red, green, blue, and beige or even a shingled effect.
Our professional, trained and insured team provide an excellent service which will allow you to be rest assured that a high quality finish will be achieved on time and on budget.
Top Benefits of tarmac driveway over alternative paving solutions
When it comes to driveway surfacing options, you are spoilt for choice. The options available to you include:
- Concrete driveways.
- Gravel.
- Paving stones.
- Brick driveways.
- Cement driveways.
- Slabs and flagstones.
With so many materials to choose from, why should you settle for a tarmac asphalt surface? Below are a few of the key benefits you stand to enjoy when you opt for tarmac driveway for your home:
- Low Cost – Tarmac driveways cost less per square meter than other types of driveway surfaces. Costs will vary depending on whether it’s a fresh installation or a resurfacing job.
- Durability and weather resistant – tarmac will last more than 15 years if properly taken care of, with little need for maintenance. Tarmac also performs better in the colder weather we experience throughout the UK.
- Quick and easy to install – installing a tarmac driveway is a straightforward process, and although it requires specialised equipment, it can be completed within a couple of days. Of course, the size of the driveway to be tarmacked is a factor in determining how long the job takes.
- Low-cost maintenance – apart from patching up any areas affected by weather or excessive traffic, tarmac driveways are long lasting and durable.
Tarmac Driveway Step By Step
The cost of laying tarmac drive can be split into two categories:
- New tarmac driveway installation.
- Tarmac driveway relayering.
The costs will, of course, be different and you should expect to pay slightly more for a new tarmac drive. However, below we provide a breakdown of each component or phase of the drive laying process, so there is transparency on what it is you are paying for.
The steps for laying a new tarmac driveway are as follows:
- Excavation and removal of existing driveway surface.
- Install high-grade membrane to prevent weed growth.
- Next, edging is laid on a sand and cement base. Depending on the shape and size of the driveway, this stage will usually take the longest.
- The sub-base is laid next and then compacted either manually or mechanically.
- The binding course (first layer of tarmac) is laid by hand or machine, and a roller is used for compaction.
- A surface course is applied and compacted using a roller to create the smooth final finish.
- Finishing touches and site clearance including taking away all the rubbish.
